Festa di Maiale
Join us on the last Saturday in July for our annual Festa di Maiale hosted in co-operation with the Pro-Loco of Carapelle Calvisio.
Pigs are a very important part of Italian culture and cuisine and we are very proud to keep and breed not one but two rare breeds. The Cinta Senese from Tuscany which dates back to the 13th Century and the Nero D'Abruzzo which is the historical breed of this region of Italy.
On this day you are invited to come to the farm to enjoy Guded tours of the farm where you will see the pigs living outdoors in their woodland areas. You will be able to feed them apples and other treats that we make available on this special day, In addition we will be hosting traditional games and activities for your children (and adults who know how to enjoy themselves) and of course there will be porchetta made from one of our own rare breed pigs and cooked in a wood oven.
The Pro-loco will have a bar open where you can purchase drinks including wine from Fattoria Licia, a fantastic family run vineyard located near Chieti and we are currently sourcing local artisan beers to serve also.
The entry price of €10 includes all activities and games, the guided tour hosted at various times throughout the day and one of our delicious Porchetta Sandwiches per person. Additional Sandwiches can be purchased if you do find them truly irresistible!
We will also have salumi from our rare breed pigs available to purchase and have invited a limited number of other vendors to have a stall of their products on sale also.
